The NAD Centre rewards excellence
Richard Clément-Tam and Hubert Zapalowicz both awarded $4,000 scholarships
Montreal, January 15, 2007 – The NATIONAL AND ANIMATION DESIGN CENTRE is proud to announce the two winners of $4,000 scholarships as part of its new “Earn your scholarship” grant program: Richard Clément-Tam and Hubert Zapalowicz. Both students had been accepted to the January 2007 session of the NAD Centre’s 3D Animation and Visual Effects for Film and Television program, and both satisfied the artistic and technical requirements needed to obtain a scholarship. The NAD Centre recognized that the originality, quality and relevance of the work submitted reflected the talent and determination necessary to pursue a career in the film and television post-production industry. “The grant program was set up to reward the excellence of our applicants and to facilitate access to our two regular training programs,” noted Suzanne Guèvremont, NAD Centre General Manager.
In 2006, Richard Clément-Tam won first prize in the Institute of Design Montréal’s Jumelage universités-étudiants-entreprises competition and was the top winner of the “Mérite technologique” scholarship awarded by Lumec’s Concept Lumière Urbaine foundation. Having earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from the Université de Montréal, Richard developed an interest in creating synthesis images and 3D animation, and sees the NAD Centre as a continuation of his university education in design. In his portfolio, he said, “I am presently looking for the school that will best meet my needs and offer more specialized and advanced training. I visited the NAD Centre and found that it could meet those needs.”
Hubert Zapalowicz is passionate about visual effects and digital imaging, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in film animation from Concordia University in 2004. That same year, he co-founded Baku studios, a company specializing in animation production, visual communication and multimedia, and he has extensive professional experience in 2D and 3D animation, in illustration and design, as well as in pre- and post-production. In his letter of intent, he wrote, “I would like to surpass my limits and perfect my knowledge of modelling, textures and animation. The NAD Centre will allow me to compete with the best in the industry.”
