About RSS feeds

A web feed is a document which contains summaries of stories, event descriptions, news items or other sorts of web content, containing also a link to the original story. Sometimes, web feeds contain the entire content being syndicated. RSS is one of the two common web feed formats.

The montreal.siggraph.org web site syndicates events and news items by publishing RSS web feeds. Like syndicated print newspaper features or broadcast programs, web feed contents may be shared and republished by other web sites. (For that reason, one popular definition of RSS is Really Simple Syndication.)

How do I use RSS Feeds?

To use RSS feeds you need an aggregator application, usually called RSS Reader or News Reader. Web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera, e-mail programs like Microsoft Outlook, and other applications include aggregators. Just point your favorite aggregator to the RSS links identified on the montreal.siggraph.org pages with the RSS link. Or simply click on the RSS icon.

If you use Google's Gmail, you can simply add a Web Clip pointing to the montreal.siggraph.org RSS URLs and you'll see recent news and events directly on your Gmail page.

The two main RSS syndication links on montreal.siggraph.org are http://montreal.siggraph.org/news/RSS and http://montreal.siggraph.org/events-calendar/events/RSS . Every page showing the RSS" icon generates RSS feeds, so keep an eye open!
