History and official status
The creation of Montrea ACM SIGGRAPH was initiated by ACM Québec, the Quebec chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH's parent organization, in the spring of 2001. An initial web site was first published in the summer of 2001. Monthly presentations began taking place starting in September 2001, with attendance levels have ranging from 100 to 600 people since that time.
In December 2001, the Founding Committee drafted the organization's charter, and in February a request for official recognition as a local chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH was formally submitted. Approval is expected this spring, at which time our first annual General Meeting will take place.
